WIRED Summary: Launch of Gemini 3, Nvidia Financial Results, Fallout from Epstein Documents

Zoë Schiffer: Certainly, one point everyone seems to agree on is that Nvidia has firmly committed itself during this AI acceleration phase. For better or worse, around 90 percent of Nvidia’s revenue, which was once largely from chips for personal gaming computers, now comes from its data center operations. It feels like every partnership between OpenAI and another company has Nvidia involved in some way, indicating its deep connections throughout the industry at this stage.

Max Zeff: Absolutely, it has effectively embedded itself within every AI firm. However, this raises significant concerns. There’s been substantial discussion about these circular relationships where Nvidia heavily relies on several startups it also supports. It plays the dual roles of customer and investor. Nvidia is so intertwined in this space that it’s not surprising Jensen is consistently defending the AI bubble.

Zoë Schiffer: Indeed. It’s important to note that one major fear expressed by skeptics of the AI bubble centers around the fact that GPUs comprise a significant portion of the cost for building a data center, and these need to be replaced approximately every three years. Nvidia releases new cutting-edge chips, and companies must buy them to remain competitive. The concern is that this upgrade cycle isn’t fully reflected in the pricing. However, as long as demand for chips persists, Jensen maintains, “No, no, we’re insulated right now.”

Max Zeff: Right. We’ll see whether that holds true.

Zoë Schiffer: One more story before we take a break, and we both need to be especially professional for this one. I’m not sure about you, Max, but I think we need to be just a bit more polished. You’ll see what I mean. WIRED contributor Mattha Busby shared an article about two young Mormons who developed an app aimed at helping men overcome porn addiction and gooning habits. To be honest, I had never encountered the term “gooning” until I read this piece, and I was quite taken aback. For those unfamiliar, gooning refers to extended periods of masturbation without climax. The app, called Relay, was designed by 27-year-old Chandler Rogers with the goal of helping his Gen Z peers break free from porn. I have my own suggestions—like going outside or engaging with another person—but I don’t want to sound harsh, as I recognize this can be a challenging issue for many.
