What Is Adobe Firefly? A Guide to Utilizing This Powerful Generative AI Tool

Firefly is a robust tool, and I won’t be able to cover every feature it offers. Instead, I’ll guide you through a straightforward process of creating an image using an AI model, followed by using that image as the foundation for a short, looping video.

To get started, click on New. You can opt to create a fresh file or generate one. Creating a file allows you to upload an existing photo and leverage generative AI for modifications, while generating a file creates an image from scratch using an AI model. For this demonstration, select Image within the generate section.

On the subsequent screen, you’ll encounter a prompt field resembling a chatbot, along with several general settings. At the top of the sidebar, you can choose your model and aspect ratio, in addition to uploading a reference image. If you have a specific goal in mind, it’s advisable to upload a reference image. In the prompt field, you’ll notice the credit cost for generation, along with a toggle for prompt suggestions. After entering a prompt, click Generate.

Once you obtain your image, remember that it’s merely the starting point. If the result isn’t to your liking, select the three dots next to the image and opt for Generate More to explore additional options. If the image is nearly right but needs adjustments, you can hover over it, select Edit, and then choose Use As Reference Image to input it back into the AI model. In the same menu, you’ll also find Edit Image, which allows you to refine the generated image by interacting with the AI model.

Once you’re satisfied with an image, navigate back to the main Firefly interface by clicking the icon in the upper left corner. Adobe keeps a log of your generation history in Firefly, so you can easily retrieve your generated assets later. With a start frame in hand, it’s time to create a video. Click New once more, and select Video.
