Gemini Can Now Schedule an Uber Ride or Order DoorDash Meals from Your Phone: Here’s What You Need to Know

You may be experiencing a sense of déjà vu.
Ten years ago, tech giants like Google and Apple made claims about their voice assistants being able to handle tasks for users. Apple announced that Siri could book an Uber; however, if you try it now, Siri merely opens the Uber app. Google promised the ability to “Order my usual” at Starbucks through Google Assistant, but the functionality was cumbersome, leading to its eventual removal.
Today, with the advancements in large language models and natural language understanding AI, these promises are resurfacing. During Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked event, Google and Samsung demonstrated how the Gemini voice assistant will allow users to perform tasks through select third-party apps such as booking an Uber or ordering food via Uber Eats, DoorDash, or Grubhub. (More app support is expected to roll out later this year alongside Android 17.)
Currently in early preview, this feature will first be available in the US and South Korea, launching with the Galaxy S26 smartphones on March 11, and later as a software update for the Google Pixel 10 series. Here’s how it functions.

When you ask Gemini, “Get me an Uber to the airport,” it will open the Uber app in a virtual window. Gemini processes this request in the background, and you can track its progress via a live notification. Although you can view the entire process, the intention is to let it run while you attend to more important tasks.
Should it need additional details—like deciding which of the three major airports near New York you’re heading to—it will prompt you for clarification. Once completed, you’ll receive a notification, and you’ll be directed to the booking stage in the Uber app. Note that Gemini does not finalize your booking for you; you’ll need to select whether to choose an UberX or UberXL, confirm the fare, and book your ride.
“I like to refer to certain automation tasks as digital laundry—things you know need to be done but aren’t necessarily looking forward to completing,” says Sameer Samat, president of the Android Ecosystem at Google, in an interview with WIRED.
