Every Windows 11 Computer Will Receive These Enhanced Copilot AI Capabilities

Microsoft has reserved its most advanced AI tools for paying customers during the initial stage of its AI growth. Now, the company has unveiled a range of Copilot features set to launch on all Windows 11 PCs, including Voice, Copilot Vision, and Copilot Actions.

With this update, Microsoft is embarking on an advertising campaign to introduce these features to users. The timing is strategic, as support for Windows 10 ended on October 14, leading to a surge in Windows 11 upgrades. Microsoft aims to make sophisticated Copilot features accessible to as many users as possible, encouraging them to embrace this technology.

“Hey, Copilot.” This is the activation phrase for the voice mode AI assistant, now accessible on all Windows 11 devices. Regardless of personal preference, Microsoft aims to encourage voice interaction with computers. The new Copilot features will allow users to interact verbally with Copilot both within applications and throughout the operating system. This type of interaction has been present on smartphones for years, with varying levels of effectiveness, including on Microsoft’s Copilot+ laptops.

“It’s been nearly forty years since the PC fundamentally changed how we interact with it, mainly through mouse and keyboard,” stated Yusuf Mehdi, Microsoft’s consumer chief marketing officer. “But what if you could extend that to speech? We envision voice as the third input method for PCs.”

The initiative to promote direct voice interaction with PCs is backed by data. Mehdi referenced Microsoft’s findings on user engagement with its PCs via voice commands, which include dictation, note-taking, and voice typing. He noted that users engage with the Copilot app twice as frequently when using voice rather than typing, citing ease of use as a factor. “People communicate through their computers; they don’t just speak to or with them,” he remarked. “We believe this shift will be transformative.”
