All the Latest Features You Can Use with Siri AI

Siri made its initial appearance on the iPhone in 2011, arriving five years before Google Assistant and 11 years prior to the public debut of ChatGPT. Despite this early start, Apple’s voice AI has been significantly surpassed in recent years, appearing somewhat outdated compared to the diverse generative AI competitors it now faces. With the introduction of iOS 27, Apple and Siri are making a comeback. There’s a new name—Siri AI—and a variety of new capabilities coming to your iPhone.

These are the enhanced features you’ll be able to utilize once iOS 27 rolls out on your device, if you’re using the iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, or later models (including the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone Duo). Only these latest phones possess the necessary silicon to handle the elevated AI processing requirements.

Get More Personal Context
You’ll notice when Siri AI is launched that it takes some time to index everything on your iPhone. This allows it to dive deep into your texts, emails, calendars, and whatever else you have saved on your phone (everything remains on-device—nothing is sent back to Apple). This means you can pose natural questions regarding text conversations, email exchanges, and appointments—like “What day is my work appraisal happening?” or “Where did I say I’d meet Mom?”—and receive informed, personalized responses based on your stored information.

This functionality extends to photos and videos as well. Open the Photos app and ask Siri AI to show you all the pictures of your pet, the images from your last vacation, or all the photos of trees you’ve collected, using straightforward, conversational prompts.

Ask About Anything on the Screen
Siri AI understands what you’re viewing while using your iPhone—perhaps even better than you do. Previously, you’d have to take a screenshot and share it with Siri for assistance; now, you can simply ask.

If you’re browsing in Safari, for instance, you can say “Hey Siri” and have it summarize the text on the screen or identify a landmark in an image within an online article. You can inquire about various options in Settings or retrieve additional details on a game you’re considering downloading from the App Store.

The same visual processing capability is available through the iOS Camera app: Just switch to Siri mode using the selector by the shutter button, and ask Siri AI about anything within view (like nutritional information for an item on a menu). Siri AI can see what you see.

Write and Edit Text Anywhere
The previous version of Siri could generate text for you, but it relied on an integrated ChatGPT plug-in. With Siri AI, no external assistance is necessary, allowing you to use it for text messages and emails. Simply activate Siri AI by saying “Hey Siri” or tapping on the Write with Siri link, then articulate what you want to convey or describe the modifications you’d like it to implement. You can direct it to make your messages more or less formal, to expand or contract sections of text, or to transform quick notes into comprehensive paragraphs and sentences.
